About the Henley Royal Regatta

Henley Royal Regatta is a famous rowing event held every year on the River Thames by Henley-on-Thames. Established in 1839, the regatta predates all national and international rowing organisations, so it has its own governing body. England’s reigning monarch has acted as the regatta’s royal patron since Prince Albert assumed the role in 1851.

Today Henley attracts around 300,000 visitors and is a highlight of the summer sporting and social calendars. Running for six days from Tuesday to Sunday, rowers compete in over 300 head-to-head knockout races.
