Townsville Airport is located just outside the coastal city of Townsville. Regular shuttle bus services provide transfers between the airport, central business district, The Stand, and the ferry terminal. It has two runways, both of which are Asphalt. Townsville airport has an integrated terminal building providing services for both international and domestic passengers. The airport has nine gates, four of which have jet bridges. Within the terminal building passenger can find shops and eateries, along with a VIP lounge for Quantas Club members. Townsville Airport was the first regional Australian airport to be granted international status, with the first international services beginning in the 1980s. Plans have been put forward for a redevelopment and expansion of the terminal building, including the addition of a Virgin Australia business lounge.
