• Introduced in 2014, the Cessna Citation X+ was a major upgrade of the Cessna Citation X. Both remain amongst the fastest private jets on the market.
• The Citation X+ became the world’s fastest civil aircraft at the time, reaching a speed of Mach 0.935 during a test flight.
• The aircraft can be configured for up to 12 passengers, but typically seats eight or nine.
• There’s room in the hold for 12 suitcases, allowing for at least one item of luggage per passenger.
• Production of the Citation X+ ceased in 2018.

The Citation X+ remains one of the fastest civilian aircraft in the sky. It can climb to 51,000 feet and cruise at near-supersonic speeds of up to Mach 0.935. Updates from its predecessor, the Citation X, include Rolls-Royce AE3007C2 engines with new fans, Garmin G5000 flight displays and increased range and payload.

Interior design

The Citation X+’s cabin is luxuriously finished with leathers, fabrics, hand-finished hardwoods and a modern vanity and lavatory.

The standard configuration features eight single seats, while an alternative layout replaces two of these with a three-seater side-facing sofa. The wide, reclining seats offer plenty of legroom and views through 13 large windows.

• In addition to the baggage hold, there’s a 9.8ft³ utility storage area for bulky cargo like skis and golf clubs.

Technological features

As well as having more powerful engines than its predecessor, the Citation X+ features a Garmin G5000 avionics suite with interactive touch-screen controllers. Passengers can control the lighting, window shades, temperature and entertainment from their mobile phones in the state-of-the-art interactive cabin.

History

Cessna launched the Citation X+ in 2010, 20 years after work had begun on the Citation X. The new aircraft was delivered from 2013 with upgraded Rolls-Royce AE3007C2 engines, Garmin auto-throttles, elliptical winglets and a longer fuselage. The result is greater power and speed, increased payload and longer range.

Manufacturer

Cessna was founded in 1927 by Clyde Cessna and Victor Roos. It was originally called the Cessna-Roos Aircraft Company, but Roos’ name was dropped after he resigned just one month into the partnership and sold back his interest to Cessna.

Headquartered in Wichita, Kansas, the company specialised in producing small piston-powered planes and business jets. After becoming one of the world’s biggest general aviation producers, it was bought by General Dynamics in 1985 and by Textron in 1992. In March 2014, Cessna stopped operating as a subsidiary company and joined Beechcraft and Hawker as one of the three distinct brands produced by Textron Aviation.
