CESSNA CITATION V ENCORE / ENCORE +

CESSNA CITATION V ENCORE / ENCORE +

  • Passengers 8

The Cessna Citation Encore and Encore+ are the largest aircraft in Cessna’s successful Citation family. With their spacious cabins and generous luggage holds, both light jets are popular choices for a luxurious and cost-effective private charter.

About this aircraft

  • The Citation Encore was announced in 1998 and delivered in 2000, with greater range and more powerful engines than the preceding Citation Ultra.
  • Like the original Citation V, the Encore typically seats seven or eight passengers in a spacious cabin. The enclosed lavatory can provide an extra seat if required.
  • The sizable baggage hold has space for seven suitcases and three golf bags.
  • The Citation Encore can fly non-stop from New York to Miami or London to Ibiza.
  • Deliveries ceased in 2008 with the release of the upgraded Citation Encore+, which features improved engines and a new avionics suite.

With their impressive range, small runway capabilities and high payload, the Citation Encore and Encore+ are among the most versatile and spacious light jets on the market.

Interior design

The Citation Encore’s cabin is the same size as the original Citation V’s, measuring 17.3 feet (5.3 m) long, 4.8 feet (1.49 m) wide and 4.8 feet (1.46 m) high. The space is used to the fullest, with extra-wide seats that recline 60 degrees and rotate a full 360 degrees.

New features include redesigned interior fittings, more seated headroom, and passenger service units enabling more even airflow and temperature control. A total of 14 large windows let in plenty of natural light.

The Encore has space for up to nine passengers but is usually configured for seven, with four seats in a club formation flanked by two forward-facing seats in the rear and one at the front. Some layouts can accommodate eight people with a double club or two smaller seats at the front facing the cabin door, while a ninth passenger can sit in the enclosed lavatory. The cabin and hold are spacious, especially compared to competitors.

Below are two standard configurations found on the Cessna Citation Encore.

Interesting facts to learn before you fly

  • The Encore’s length gives it one of the largest cabins in the light jet category.
  • Its baggage hold is also one of the largest-in-class.

Technological features

The Citation Encore’s Pratt & Whitney Canada PW535A engines give it a longer range and better all-round performance than the Citation V. The aircraft retains its predecessor’s Honeywell Primus 1000 EFIS avionics suite with three CRT displays (two primary flight displays and one multifunction display).

The upgraded Citation Encore+ features ADEC-controlled PW535B engines and Rockwell Collins ProLine 21 avionics.

History

The first upgrade of the original Citation V was the Citation Ultra, which launched in 1994 and was named Flying Magazine’s “Best Business Jet”. Cessna kept the V’s large cabin, but improved a host of features and modernised the technology. More than 250 Ultras were delivered until it made way for the Encore in 1999.

The Encore was announced in 1998 and certified in 2000, with over 160 models produced. The aircraft was equipped with the Ultra’s Honeywell Primus 1000 EFIS avionics suite, along with upgrades including new Pratt & Whitney Canada PW535 engines, a trailing link main undercarriage, better fuel payload, an updated interior and improved systems.

Next came the Citation Encore+, boasting modern interiors, FADEC-controlled PW535B engines and Rockwell Collins ProLine 21 avionics. The Encore+ was certified by the FAA in December 2006, with over 60 deliveries made between 2007 and 2011.

Manufacturer

Cessna was founded in 1927 by Clyde Cessna and Victor Roos. It was originally called the Cessna-Roos Aircraft Company, but Roos’ name was dropped after he resigned just one month into the partnership and sold back his interest to Cessna.

Headquartered in Wichita, Kansas, the company specialised in producing small piston-powered planes and business jets. After becoming one of the world’s biggest general aviation producers, it was bought by General Dynamics in 1985 and by Textron in 1992. In March 2014, Cessna stopped operating as a subsidiary company and joined Beechcraft and Hawker as one of the three distinct brands produced by Textron Aviation.

Cost

Depending on the production year and condition, a pre-owned Cessna Citation Encore can cost $2.5 million to $3 million (USD). A Citation Encore+ typically ranges from $6 million.
