A luxurious hilltop lodge in the path of the great wildebeest migration

Singita Sasakwa Lodge

Perched on a hill overlooking a 350,000-acre private game reserve on the border of northeast Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, Singita Sasakwa Lodge is one of Africa’s most stylish safari camps. Located in the path of the annual wildebeest migration with spectacular views over the Big Five-populated savannah below, this luxurious lodge is styled like an English manor house with stone walls, high ceilings and stately furniture, whilst its facilities rival those of a five-star city hotel. Impeccable service, excellent game viewing and fabulous cuisine make this a truly unforgettable African safari experience.

DINING

The food here is some of the finest in Tanzania and can be served anywhere, including in your suite, on a veranda, under a lamp-lit tree or in a private room. Start the day with a hearty breakfast from the huge buffet or select cooked dishes from the extensive menu. Lunch is a refined à la carte affair, before guests are invited to afternoon tea on the veranda before their afternoon game drive. If you’ve still got room for dinner, tuck into three gourmet courses paired with fine wines from Singita’s award-winning cellars – run by esteemed sommelier Francois Rautenbach. Then sip after-dinner drinks in the chandeliered drawing room whilst relaxing in a leather armchair.

ACTIVITIES

With a location on the famous migration route travelled by millions of wildebeest and zebra every year, wildlife is the obvious attraction here and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to see the Big Five up-close – the vast private reserve is exclusive to Singita guests, who can explore at their leisure on daily game drives and walks accompanied by professional guides. Experienced horse-riders can explore on horseback from the equestrian centre next door and hot-air balloon trips over the plains can be arranged on request. Back at camp there’s an infinity pool, luxurious spa, gym, archery pavilion and outdoor tennis courts.

ROOM TYPES

Guests can enjoy breathtaking views from 10 air-conditioned cottages perched along the ridge of the hill. Beautifully decorated with polished parquet floors and vintage furnishings, each one- to four-bedroom abode sits in a private garden and boasts a spacious lounge, fireplace, private deck and its own heated infinity-edge plunge pool. Bedrooms are kitted out with four-poster beds and large ensuite bathrooms with showers and roll-top baths. Thoughtful touches include a Swarovski telescope on the terrace where you can observe wildlife roaming the savannah.
