Life-saving Medication, Lebanon
As the world went into lockdown due to Covid-19 in March 2020, a freight forwarder asked Air Charter Service to urgently transport life-saving medication from France to a sick child in Beirut. The cargo was originally booked onto a scheduled passenger flight, however all flights to and from Beirut were cancelled on the day of the flight as Lebanon closed its borders.
OUR SOLUTION
Route: Paris > Beirut
Aircraft: Cessna Citation Excel
It was imperative that the potentially lifesaving cargo arrived in Beirut within 48 hours in order to save the child’s life, so time was of the essence. We quickly sourced a Cessna Citation Excel that could collect the cargo from Paris and complete the return flight to/from Beirut within a single crew shift, as Lebanon’s travel restrictions meant the crew couldn’t leave the aircraft.
Initially the Lebanese civil aviation authority refused our permit application, asking us to provide evidence that there would be no passengers onboard attempting to enter the country. We worked against the clock to secure supporting documents confirming it was an urgent cargo-only flight, following which the permit was granted. The flight ran smoothly and the cargo was delivered in time.
