Flying chicks from South Africa to Tanzania

A freight forwarder asked us to help transport day-old chicks from a hatchery in South Africa to Tanzania. Due to the live nature of the cargo, we needed to ensure the time-sensitive flight was meticulously planned with the correct logistics in place to protect the animals’ welfare during transit.

Our Solution

Route: Lanseria > Kilimanjaro (plus a tech stop in Malawi)

Aircraft: Beechcraft 1900

Within a day of receiving the request, our experienced team had sourced a Beechcraft 1900 with enough room to safely transport the chicks. We then met with the client and aircraft operator to carry out a practice run, ascertaining how many crates could be loaded onto the aircraft whilst maintaining optimal airflow onboard.

The flight ran smoothly and the client has since used us for over a dozen additional charters transporting chicks abroad.

The Finer Details

Going the Extra Mile: We installed thermometers that could be monitored during the flight, allowing the crew to adjust the aircraft’s temperature if needed.

Flight Representation: An ACS representative was present when the crates were loaded to ensure everything went to plan and to assist with any problems.
