About the Canadian Grand Prix

The Canadian Grand Prix has been part of the Formula One World Championship since 1967. Although it hasn’t been a permanent fixture, it’s now one of the most-watched F1 races on the calendar.

The first Canadian Grand Prix was held at Mosport Park in Ontario, before alternating with Circuit Mont-Tremblant in Quebec. In 1978, the race moved to its current home at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal due to safety concerns. Despite periods of absence from the F1 calendar, it's now a settled fixture and races will continue there until at least 2031.

Originally named the Île Notre-Dame Circuit, the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is 4.361 km (2.710 miles) long. Built on top of man-made Notre Dame Island, it’s renowned for its long straight running parallel to the St. Lawrence River, the Senna ‘S’ of turns one and two and the 180° hairpin turn at turn 10.

How to get to the Canadian Grand Prix by private jet

Montreal–Trudeau International Airport is currently Canada’s third-busiest airport, with several FBOs (fixed base operators) serving private jet passengers flying into the city. It sits 20 km (12 miles) from the city centre and just a 25-minute drive from Notre Dame Island.

A 20-minute drive away from the F1 circuit is Montreal Saint-Hubert Longueuil Airport. This smaller airport is also home to internationally-renowned FBOs, catering to a range of private jet requirements including maintenance. This airport is also the ideal landing destination if you’re travelling via helicopter charter to the Canadian Grand Prix.
