Winter Youth Olympic Games
When: 19 Jan – 1 Feb
Where: Gangwon Province, South Korea
Ahead of the Summer Olympics in Paris, future Winter Olympians put their skills to the test in South Korea. The international multi-sport event for athletes aged 15-18 features seven sports and 15 disciplines across 81 events.

World Aquatics Championships
When: 2-18 Feb
Where: Doha, Qatar
After being rescheduled due to the pandemic, the 21st World Aquatics Championships take place in the Aspire Dome, Hamad Aquatic Centre and Old Doha Port in Qatar. This exciting event provides an early insight into gold medal favourites for the Summer Olympic Games.
World Team Table Tennis Championships
When: 16-25 Feb
Where: Busan, South Korea
South Korea hosts its first World Team Table Tennis Championships in 2024 at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Centre. The Chinese men's team hold a record 22 titles and are once again the ones to beat, but everyone has something to play for, with quarter-finalists automatically qualifying for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Qatar Open
When: 19-24 Feb
Where: Doha, Qatar
The first of two Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour events held in the Middle East in 2024, the Qatar Open has been named ATP 250 Tournament of the Year five times. Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have all played and won here, with Daniil Medvedev claiming the 2023 title.
Dubai Tennis Championships
When: 26 Feb – 2 Mar
Where: Dubai, UAE
The Dubai Tennis Championships (also known as the Dubai Open) has a long history of welcoming top players. Roger Federer holds several records that will stand for years to come, having won eight of his 10 finals on the Dubai hard courts. Like the Qatar Open, Daniil Medvedev is the reigning champion in Dubai from 2023.
Bahrain Grand Prix
When: 29 Feb – 2 Mar
Where: Sakhir, Bahrain
The 2024 F1 season kicks off in the Middle East, with teams and their drivers descending on the Bahrain International Circuit. This race always brings an extra level of intrigue, as it reveals which teams have produced the best-performing cars during the off-season.

Saudi Arabian Grand Prix
When: 7-9 Mar
Where: Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
The second grand prix of the season debuted in December 2021 on the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, a 6.1-kilometre coastal street circuit in the historic port city. Zooming along the city’s Red Sea waterfront, Formula One’s second-fastest track has been tweaked since its inaugural race to improve drivers’ visibility at high-speed corners.
Dubai World Cup
When: 30 Mar
Where: Dubai, UAE
The culmination of the nine-week Dubai Racing Carnival sees thoroughbred horses, jockeys and owners from across the globe descend on the Meydan Racecourse for the chance to win millions of dollars in prize money. One of the world’s richest horse races, the Dubai World Cup attracts super-wealthy spectators and sets the city abuzz with activity.

Hong Kong Sevens
When: 5-7 Apr
Where: Hong Kong, China
One of Asia’s most popular sporting events takes place at the iconic Hong Kong Stadium for the last time before relocating to the Kai Tak Sports Park in 2025. The international rugby tournament has become more of a festival for fans, with beer and wacky costumes a common sight in the stands. Can Fiji claim their 20th triumph, having lost out to Australia and New Zealand in the last two finals?
Japanese Grand Prix
When: 5-7 Apr
Where: Suzuka, Japan
The 2024 Japanese Grand Prix is held earlier in the year than previous editions, which have fallen towards the end of the season and often acted as World Championship deciders. The race sees drivers take on the 53-lap Suzuka Circuit near Japan’s third-largest city, Nagoya, which is known for its unique figure-of-eight layout and challenging corners.
Chinese Grand Prix
When: 19-21 Apr
Where: Shanghai, China
Formula One teams head to the bright lights of Shanghai to race in the Chinese Grand Prix for the first time since 2019. British racing star Lewis Hamilton has fond memories of the modern Shanghai International Circuit, having claimed victory here six times.

Great Wall Marathon
When: 18 May
Where: Huangyaguan Great Wall, Tianjin, China
One of the world’s most demanding marathons is held yearly on the third Sunday in May. The race started out in 1999 with just 350 runners and is now a sell-out event, with around 2,500 people climbing thousands of stone steps and traversing countless descents over the 26-mile route. Beyond racing, the marathon provides a unique chance to explore one of the world's most remarkable man-made wonders.

MotoGP Grand Prix of Kazakhstan
When: 14-16 Jun
Where: Near Almaty, Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan is set to host its inaugural MotoGP race in 2024, after the new Sokol International Racetrack was finally unveiled. The event was postponed in 2023 due to delays completing the 76-kilometre circuit, but one year on the venue is preparing for a belated debut.

Tour of Qinghai Lake
When: 7-14 Jul
Where: Qinghai Province, China
Part of the UCI ProSeries, this annual week-long road bicycle race sees some of the world’s top cyclists descend on China’s Qinghai province. After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Henok Mulubrhan from Green Project-Bardiani-CSF-Faizane was the general classification winner in 2023.

Singapore Grand Prix
When: 20-22 Sep
Where: Marina Bay, Singapore
The original Singapore Grand Prix was held at Thomson Road from 1966 to 1973, before returning to the Formula One calendar in 2008 at the picturesque Marina Bay Street Circuit. It was the first-ever F1 race to be held at night and proved controversial due to a deliberate crash from the Renault team.
MotoGP Grand Prix of Indonesia
When: 27-29 Sep
Where: Lombok, Indonesia
It’s a MotoGP in paradise as riders take on the new Mandalika Circuit on Lombok’s southern coast. The 4.3-kilometre street-style circuit boasts spectacular Pacific Ocean views, meaning spectators can soak up the scenery whilst watching the action on the track.
ICC Women's T20 World Cup
When: Sep – Oct (exact dates TBC)
Where: Bangladesh
This biennial international women’s cricket tournament started in 2009 with eight participants, but this number has since increased to 10. Australia claimed their sixth title in the postponed 2022 edition last year, after beating hosts South Africa in the final.

Shanghai Masters
When: 2-13 Oct
Where: Shanghai, China
The Shanghai Masters is lauded as one of the finest ATP Tour tennis events, having been named ATP Masters 1000 Tournament of the Year five times. Last year’s event, the first since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was won by Polish player Hubert Hurkacz.
MotoGP Grand Prix of Japan
When: 4-6 Oct
Where: Tochigi, Japan
Japan has a long motorsports heritage and the country’s MotoGP is a homecoming of sorts for big-name teams Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki. Set in the beautiful Kanto region, Twin Ring Motegi is known for its track’s dramatic stop-start hairpins and also showcases historic motorcycles and cars in the Honda Collection Hall.

MotoGP Grand Prix of Malaysia
When: 1-3 Nov
Where: Sepang, Malaysia
Featuring one of the sport’s longest laps, Malaysia’s MotoGP makes for a thrilling race. With two long straights, tight hairpin turns and wide corners, Sepang International Circuit’s unique track gives riders plenty of opportunities to showcase some exciting overtaking manoeuvres.
IWF World Championships
When: Nov – Dec (exact dates TBC)
Where: Manama, Bahrain
Capital city Manama hosts the biggest weightlifting event ever staged in Bahrain. The annual competition sees the world’s best weightlifters come together to battle it out across numerous weight categories. Over 700 athletes competed in the record-breaking 2023 edition in Saudi Arabia.
Qatar Grand Prix
When: 29 Nov – 1 Dec
Where: Doha, Qatar
The F1 teams and drivers head to Qatar for the penultimate race of the 2024 season. The Lusail International Circuit is located on the outskirts of capital city Doha and was originally built to host MotoGP races. This means the 5.4-kilometre track is incredibly fast, with predominantly medium- and high-speed corners.

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
When: 6-8 Dec
Where: Yas Island, Abu Dhabi
This thrilling race draws the Formula One season to a close at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. The winners of both the Drivers’ Championship and the Constructors' Championship are officially crowned on this day.
