ACS join Long Beach cleanup
Our Corporate & Environment Social Responsibility (CESR) team from ACS New York went to Long Beach – not to relax and unwind, but to join the Long Beach Cleanup organisation to pick up litter and debris on one of New York’s most famous beaches.
The team met up at the beach’s access ramp on the boardwalk before being handed cleaning equipment to get started. After splitting up and walking down the beach, team members were surprised by how much litter they found.
“I think all of the volunteers who participated in the Long Beach clean were a bit taken aback by how much waste each of us picked up on the beach that day,” says Christian Rivera, Co-Chair of our Corporate & Environment Social Responsibility Committee in the Americas region.
“There were bottles, bottle caps, cans, bags, plastics, cigarettes, beach towels… the list goes on and on. It was certainly a great step in the right direction of giving our time back to the community while also helping the environment.”
As a global organisation, at ACS we’re not only passionate about creating a fairer and more sustainable world, we’re dedicated to giving back to communities on a local level. This is why we split our Corporate & Environment Social Responsibility Committee into various regional teams around the globe.
“Making more of a positive environmental impact is an important goal of the CESR Committee, and we are constantly looking at new ways to do so,” adds Christian.
“This activity is particularly fitting, as Long Beach is where ACS New York began its journey back in 2004. We even have a photo in our lobby of our first office in New York, which was a small storefront in Long Beach. We now have close to 100 people in our two New York offices.
“It’s nice to see how far we’ve come, but it’s important we don’t forget where we came from, so the Long Beach cleanup is something I can see ACS participating in multiple times a year.
Our Corporate & Environment Social Responsibility Committee
We want to grow our business in a responsible and sustainable way, which is why we are committed to a transparent and measurable social and environmental program. Our mission is to create a future global aviation industry that is more sustainable and diverse than when we started in 1990, and to positively affect our local community and wider business community as a whole.
The ACS Corporate & Environment Social Responsibility Committee was set up to help implement this mission. The committee is made up of volunteers in several regional teams around the world, with a group CESR team at our head office in London responsible for implementing, measuring, reporting and strategic direction of all CESR activities.
For many years we’ve set ourselves ambitious CESR targets. For instance, we’ve been a Carbon Neutral Certified business since 2007. But our processes, plans and targets have also grown organically, often on an office by office or region by region basis.
