Medical grade PPE, London
As the Covid-19 pandemic left the UK with a shortage of PPE, a freight forwarder working on behalf of the UK’s Foreign & Commonwealth Office asked Air Charter Service to fly 40 tonnes of medical grade fishing raincoats and shoes from the USA to London. The protective clothing was needed urgently, so with scheduled flights suspended we sprung into action to arrange a charter that could transport the cargo in time.
OUR SOLUTION
Route: East Coast US > London
Aircraft: Boeing 747
The client originally wanted to transport the cargo from Huntsville, AL, however there was limited aircraft availability and the shipment was needed as soon as possible. We used our industry contacts to source a Boeing 747 based a three-hour drive away on the East Coast US from one of our UK-based airline partners. The aircraft usually operated scheduled flights from East Coast US to Doncaster on a wet lease, but was grounded due to Covid-19 putting their client’s business temporarily out of action. As it was sitting unused, we were able to negotiate a part-charter price for the aircraft. Following the flight, the shipment was trucked from Doncaster down to London.
THE FINER DETAILS
Superior Contacts: We were able to capitalise on our strong industry relationships to quickly secure a suitable aircraft and negotiate a competitive rate.
Attention to Detail: We arranged for the freight forwarder’s branded placards to be placed on the cargo and photographed, providing promotional images that could be used in their marketing materials.
